How The Midwest Was Won

My name is Josh. I write about music. I dig books, cute girls with and without tattoos, design, dogs and nature.

Not everything posted here will be mine; I'll try to give proper credit but hey, shit happens. Find your work on here and don't like it? Sweet, just let me know and I'll take it down.

Pedro The Lion - I Am The One That Always Calls

My dad and I might not be as outwardly “close” as it seems like most of my friends with good relationships with their dad are (as, you know, we’re both pretty uncomfortable showing emotion and I’m sure from his upbringing he has daddy issues of his own), and we’ve definitely had issues in the past, but I definitely wouldn’t trade him for anyone out there.

From him, I got all my defining traits; stubbornness, a ridiculous work ethic, a D-I-Y spirit and an undying loyalty. I’ll be okay if I skip getting his high blood pressure, though.

I think you might be the only person I’ve met who got into 808 and Heartbreak, which is awesome because I don’t really think I’m exposed to people with different tastes than mine anymore.

I’m not sure how I feel about Yeezus. “New Slaves” is amazing, and I feel like I could really like “Black Skinhead”, but everything else just isn’t appealing to me.

I can dig that Kanye’s doing something different, and isn’t just sticking with what made him famous, but it’s feeling like another 808 and Heartbreak.

No Ron Artest tactics. At least, not this game.

It’s always a buzzkill when addiction ends up taking the life of someone you know.

Doubly so when you foresaw it happening for years and couldn’t do a damn thing about it.

Also;

Holy fucking shit, The Replacements are headlining Riot Fest?

My heart might just explode.

The Replacements - Androgynous

Paul Westerberg was singing about this shit almost thirty years ago, so why the fuck are we still making this shit complicated?
