How The Midwest Was Won

My name is Josh. I write about music. I dig books, cute girls with and without tattoos, design, dogs and nature.

Not everything posted here will be mine; I'll try to give proper credit but hey, shit happens. Find your work on here and don't like it? Sweet, just let me know and I'll take it down.

Bruce Springsteen- State Trooper

Mister state trooper, please don’t stop me
Please don’t stop me, please don’t stop me
Maybe you got a kid, maybe you got a pretty wife
The only thing that I got been botherin’ me my whole life
Mister state trooper, please don’t stop me
Please don’t stop me, please don’t stop me

Favorite album of all time.

The Smiths - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

Pulp - Common People

This was pretty much my song all throughout college. I went to an arts school in the middle of downtown Chicago, and as you might expect, a good chunk of the student body were well-off kids from the ‘Burbs who had their daddies pay for their room and board and and were always splurging on the most trivial shit.

And that part I had no problem with. However, for some odd reason, a good majority of them seemed ashamed of their wealth. They wanted to pretend like they were just some middle-class kid and drink shitty beer and bitch about how much their rent was, but still be able to drop a grand on clothes or hit up shows every single night of the week.

And I’m sitting there as a kid who legitimately didn’t have any cash, who has to take out ridiculous student loans and whose dad worked in a factory and I’m thinking “What the fuck is wrong with these people?”
